Heanor Gate has been a specialist science college since 2002. The school has also been designated as a High Performing Specialist School and we have recently been awarded a second specialism in vocational studies. We are currently the lead school in the area for the new Diploma in IT.

Vouchers
Almost 2500 vouchers were sent in. These have been exchanged for a wormery, gardening gloves & tools and a range of plants and seeds.

SECONDARY SCHOOL LEAGUE TABLES : The 2009 GCSEs results including English and Maths put Heanor Gate amongst the top 10 schools in Derbyshire and 2nd in Amber Valley, beaten only by Ecclesbourne. Congratulations on our best ever GCSE results.

School Orchard
The money raised from recycling  has paid for five fruit trees. Thanks to the Construction  group for helping to plant these. Our Morrison's rewards have also arrived so there will be plenty to do at gardening club on Wednesdays after half term. If you have expertise in growing veg or making compost please advise us!
 
Year 9 Options
Year 9 students are currently selecting their options for study in Years 10 and 11.

Operation Read
A group of Year 9 students are taking part in 'Operation Read', trying to win an outdoor activity day by carrying out 'Reading Missions'. Their surveillance mission found evidence of reading around the school including recipes, instructions and notices, as well as text books, library books, newspapers and magazines.
Good luck to the group - watch out for more missions around school.
