Heanor Gate has been a specialist science college since 2002 and converted to an academy in November 2011. The school has been designated as a High Performing Specialist School and is currently the lead school in the area for the Diploma in IT.

Summer Sports Clubs

 

After school sports clubs take place from the end of April until July. Clubs run from 3.00-approx 4.30pm and are open to any interested students.

Do you have any empty 2 litre plastic pop bottles? Hand them in to school reception for Mrs Ward and help us build a recycled greenhouse.
We have 700 bottles so far - another 800 are still needed - please keep collecting!

 GCSE Revision Sessions : after school revision classes for science subjects will be available every week until the exams for Y10-13 students. Science Revision Timetable.
Maths Revision Session will take place on Weds 6th & Fri 8th June from 10am-1pm for both Higher & Foundation students.
 
Cycling Record!
Hannah Blount in Year 10 had an amazing time during this year's cycling events at the school games, which took place at the Olympic Velodrome in London.
 
As well as bringing home 4 medals, Hannah set an Under 16 national record in the girl's team sprint final.
 
Year 7 Pioneer Trip
Year 7 students had a very wet but enjoyable trip. The rain did nothing to reduce their enthusiasm for swinging on the high ropes course and crawling through tunnels.
 
 
Beauty Therapy Bag Packing
Beauty Therapy students raised £200 towards new equipment for the department by carrying out a bag pack at a local Sainsbury's.
 
Students would like to thank Sainsbury's, Ripley for their kind help with the venture.
 
Expedition Training
Year 10 Public Services students have taken part in their last navigation exercise before their 3 day expedition. They had to prove that they could find their location on a map and plan the route to their next location successfully. No-one got lost and they now have to demonstrate these skills during an assessment in the Peak District.
 
 

Parent Notices

NewsflashDrive Safety : Parents are reminded that they should not drop off students on the school site or on Kirkley Drive in the morning, as there is a safety issue with the number of cars entering and leaving the area. Students brought by car should be dropped off on Derby Road. Students walking up the drive need to take particular care and remember that it is still a road area. Students should not enter through the front car park at any time.

6th Form and College Open Evenings 2011-2012 (for Year 11 students)

GCSE Certificates for students unable to attend awards evening can be collected from main reception. If you would like a parent or friend to collect the certificates for you they must bring a signed letter from you giving permission.
