Heanor Gate has been a specialist science college since 2002 and converted to an academy in November 2011. The school has been designated as a High Performing Specialist School and is currently the lead school in the area for the Diploma in IT.

NewsflashYouth Service Consultation: Derbyshire County Council are planning significant changes to youth services across the county including closing all council run youth clubs and activities for young people (this includes Heanor Gate Youth Club). If you would like to be involved in the consultation about the changes or have questions  about what the changes will mean for local young people find out how you can get involved here.

 
Cromford Expedition
Year 10 Public Service students had the chance to try their newly acquired navigation skills around Cromford. Students had to plan, risk assess and carry out a 7km walk and barring some mud and a couple of wrong turns, all went well. Next step for the students is a 2 day expedition!
 
Swimming Success
 
Congratulations to Jack in Y10 who swam 220 lengths in under 2 hours at Heanor Leisure Centre, raising £1200 for the medical charity Stoma Care.
 
Derbyshire Young Achievers
Two HGSC students received Derbyshire Young Achievers Award on Friday 9th December. Unfortunately Ella Morgan, who received the award for her work supporting her family was unable to attend but Ronan Fowkes was presented with his award by Andy Akinwolere ex Blue Peter presenter.
 

Parent Notices

NewsflashDrive Safety : Parents are reminded that they should not drop off students on the school site or on Kirkley Drive in the morning, as there is a safety issue with the number of cars entering and leaving the area. Students brought by car should be droppoed off on Derby Road. Students walking up the drive need to take particular care and remember that it is still a road area. Students should not enter through the front car park at any time.

6th Form and College Open Evenings 2011-2012 (for Year 11 students)

GCSE Certificates for students unable to attend awards evening can be collected from main reception. If you would like a parent or friend to collect the certificates for you they must bring a signed letter from you giving permission.
