About the Library
Heanor Gate Library is open from 8.15am to 4.15pm Mon-Thursday and 8.15am-3.15pm on Fridays
All students and staff automatically become members of the library on joining Heanor Gate Science College and are welcome to visit the library to read, borrow books and other resources and complete and print out work. There is no charge to students for using library facilities.
Lesson Based Library Use
All students in Year 7 have weekly lessons in the library, alternating between reading based lessons taught together with the English department and skills based lessons taught together with the Humanities department. In addition students regularly visit the library for research as part of the curriculum in a variety of subjects. Year 8 and 9 students continue to have formal visits to the library to research for project based homework tasks. The library is also heavily used by Y10-13 students working independently on research and devevlopment tasks related to their GCSE, A Level and Vocational studies.

Resources
As well as a stock of over 10,000 books, the library has a range of newspapers, magazines and subject journals, local studies material and educational dvds. Access is also provided to a variety of online resources, particularly for GCSE & A Level study.
There are 20 network linked computers available in the main library area, as well as access to black & white and colour printing.
A separate library area is provided for 6th Form use, with a stock of around 2,000 books, a range of periodicals and 5 networked computers.
