The trip for the squad is planned for Easter 2017 and includes 4 nights accommodation at Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch, 3 day Hopper Ticket for Disneyland Park & Walt Disney Studios, International Netball Festival & Tournament, Professional Coaching, New kit and match ball for each player.

Why don't you enter the Heanor Gate Science College 500 Words Competition?

Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each year group with extra points to the house with the most number of entries.

Entries should be handed in to the library by the end of school on Friday 12th February.

Tickets are free but pick them up in advance from school reception to avoid disappointment.

Please note this event is for KS4 and KS5 students as well as parents.

Despite the questions being of degree standard our clever chemists walked away with coveted Gold and Silver certificates. Well Done! 

Y7 students need to be in the hall by 8:50.

The coach will now depart Club Correze 5.30 am Thursday 2nd July.

Students then catach a Brittany Ferry leaving Cherbourg at 5pm Thursday 2nd July (3 hour journey)

Arrive at  Portsmouth 7pm (British time) before finally arriving Heanor Gate at midnight on Thursday 2nd July.

Please note: pickup will be from the industrial estate opposite the the school outside Matthew Walker.

Students carried out their own analyses using expensive spectrometers.

Good luck with their celebration and assessment day in Solihull on Thursday where they will be showing off their completed design to assessors and the public.

The school is working closely with the local authority and other bus companies to see if alternative provision can be found.

Students from Heanor Gate really enjoyed discovering new authors and the process was completed with an enthusiastic debate on which book the group would select as the favourite of the 6. The votes were counted and the winner of this year’s Brilliant Book Awards is Wild Boy by Rob Lloyd Jones. A huge well done to all the students from Heanor Gate who took part!

 In a heroic effort they managed to paint over 50 faces in a very short space of time and raised lots of money for a very worthy cause doing it.

Well done!

Our students were competing live against teams from Hungary, Poland, Italy, France and Germany. 

The standard of competition was very high, our two teams performed very well achieving  5th and 8th place.

The Christmas Jumper day raised over £600 for Save the Children.

The prizes were presented by Derbyshire explorerSquash Falconer, who gave an interesting and inspiring talk about her adventures.

The award recognises innovation and excellence in ensuring students have the opportunity to work with a range of local businesses and are well prepared to enter the workplace and acheive success in the future.

Samantha was rewarded with a Samsung Galaxy tab with which she was delighted.

There were 126 students in Y7-10 last year with 100% attendance, all of whom were entered into the draw. Congratulations to everyone who achieved 100% attendance throughout the year and we hope to see even more students attending school every day during 2014/15.

Fun activities around school helped students develop ideas of shape, volume and number.

Activities included swimming, sailing, mountain biking, getting covered in mud and gorge walking in the Dordogne.

Students will be spending three days on their expedition to and from the summit.

Students read over 500 books during the competition in January and February.

Special congratulations to Bradley in 7BL, who read the highest number of books, and Holly in 8ABD, who read the widest variety.

Look out for the new books in the library over the next few weeks.

This included a night navigation exercise, a 6-14 mile walk (depending on their navigation skills!), a crate challenge, a low ropes challenge and cooking for themselves and staff.

All students worked hard and enjoyed the challenges they were given. Several were heard to say that they wanted to go walking again...

Their tour included The White House, Capitol Hill, The Washington Monument and the World War II memorial.

Day 2 included a visit to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to see how money is made, a visit to the zoo, a thought-provoking tour of the Holocaust Memorial Museum and a Lebanese supper (or Italian for the less adventurous!).  'See more' for Day 3...

Their itinerary included visits to a factory, TV and temple as well as experiencing a traditional tea ceremony and acrobatics show. The group also visited famous landmarks including the Great Wall, the Terracotta Army and Tiananmen Square.

They have organised a variety of events including orienteering for Howitt and Smalley Richardson primary schools, a visit to Alter Rock climbing, paintballing, a football tournament for Mundy Primary and house football here at HGSC.

Activities included testing for acidity and density and making magnets and polymers.
